Opis

The Gniezno Engine Shed (Parowozownia Gniezno) is a unique, historic railway complex established in 1875. It is considered one of the largest and most interesting railway facilities in Poland and Europe. The complex includes two impressive roundhouses with turntables, a wagon shed with a transfer table, a water tower, its own power plant, and numerous other historical buildings.

Visitors can explore one of the halls and the surrounding grounds, where an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Gniezno railway junction and a shunting locomotive (409) are presented. The facility is managed by the Gniezno Railway Enthusiasts Association, which conducts renovation work and guides tourists.

The Parowozownia Gniezno offers individual and group tours with a guide, allowing visitors to delve into the history of rail transport and see historic railway rolling stock. Special events like "Dni Pary" (Days of Steam) are organized annually in May, featuring spectacles, film screenings, concerts, lectures, shows, and special train rides. During these events, there are often additional attractions such as rides on hand-powered rail-cars (drezyny) and a narrow-gauge railway, as well as railway simulators and historical reenactments, making it appealing for families and children.
